Pet Friendly Hikes in The Smoky Mountains!

We believe everyone in the family deserves a vacation! That’s right, even your four legged fido friends! Pigeon Forge welcomes pets and wants you to enjoy your stay without fear of leaving them behind! We’ve put together some great suggestions of where to take your pets while still enjoying the beautiful Smoky Mountains! Hiking in the Smokies with the whole family is possible with these pet friendly trails!

 

  • Oconaluftee River Trail

The Oconaluftee River Trail may be difficult to pronounce, but it sure is easy to hike!  This 3.2 mile roundtrip hike is great for anybody in your family to enjoy. Hiking this trail puts you in between the Oconaluftee Visitor Center and Cherokee, NC. You’ll love the lush scenery while you walk along the Oconaluftee River! You can also bring dogs and bicycles on this trail!

 

  • Gatlinburg Trail

This is a fan favorite trail for families and pets all around! Hiking the Gatlinburg Trail is 3.8 miles roundtrip and is easy to accomplish. With mostly flat terrain and riverside views, makes it a peaceful and relaxing trail. This is also one of the only dog friendly and bicycle friendly trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

 

  • Cades Cove

Cades Cove is easily a visitor favorite thing to do while in the Smoky Mountains. Experience the auto tour of the historic Cades Cove loop. This loop throughout the area is 11 miles long and allows you to see mountainous views, relaxing streams, and plenty of old cabins from early settlers. There are also many pull offs for you to get out and explore or stretch your legs. Bring your furry friend along and roll the windows down! they’ll love this scenic car ride through the mountains. Did you know, there are trailheads to 7 hiking trails just along the Cades Cove loop?

 

  • Elkmont Campground

Visit the largest campground in the Great Smoky Mountains! With over 200 tent and RV sites, there’s so many options to choose from. Whether you like setting up by the Little River, in a more wooded area, or close to the on site amenities, there’s a perfect site for you!  A camping trip is such an easy way to spend quality time with your family and with your pets too! Be sure to never leave your pets unattended and keep them on a 6 foot leash at all times!
