Plan the Ultimate Girls Trip to Pigeon Forge
Ladies, it’s time to get your girlfriends together and plan a girls trip to Pigeon Forge!
With Pigeon Forge being an easy journey from everywhere in the Southeast, it’s the perfect place to grab your BFF’s and head out for an over the top “girlfriend” weekend. Pigeon Forge offers just the right amount of shopping, the right amount of entertainment, the right amount of nature, the right amount of great food, the right amount of fun, and the right amount of laughter. Simply, the right escape.
The first item on most to-do-lists for any girlfriend getaway is shopping. There are so many places to shop in Pigeon Forge. Such as Tanger Outlets which is home to over 100 of the nation’s leading brand name manufacturers and premium designer labels. There are also several unique shops, like Doc’s Magic Shop, His Place, Honeysuckle Rose Boutique, Lid’l Dolly’s Dresses, Flat Creek Village and Pattern Hutch just to name a few.
The Old Mill
One place to have on your to-do list, is a visit to The Old Mill. The Old Mill was built in 1830 is the oldest structure in Pigeon Forge and is the only Pigeon Forge building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mill has continuously operated as a working gristmill for over 180 year. The Old Mill recently won The Phoenix Award which is an honor given out by the Society of American Travel Writers and provides recognition for individuals or organizations actively involved in conservation, preservation, beautification and anti-pollution campaigns. The Old Mill has a restaurant serving biscuits, cornbread, pancakes, hush puppies, muffins and grits which are all made with products from the Old Mill. This historic area of Pigeon Forge has a handful of more unique shopping Old Forge Distillery, Zi Olive and Gold-N-Memories are special finds.
There are many great and unique live theater and dinner shows in Pigeon Forge. Perhaps the best shows for your your girlfriend getaway are the Comedy Barn, Smoky Mountain Opry and the Lumberjack Feud. The Smoky Mountain Opry showcases a talented collection of singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, jugglers and incredible aerialist. The Smoky Mountain Opry is an amazing show and one not to be missed. If you like to laugh or need a good laugh the Comedy Barn is the place. The Lumberjack Feud is a must for all girlfriend getaways. If your significant other asks about the Lumberjack Feud, just mention the sharp shining objects, chainsaws and real ESPN Lumberjacks there will be no need to tell them how good the muscular lumberjack eye-candy was.
The Great Smoky Mountains
The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is just a short drive from Pigeon Forge. Be sure to stop at Nantahala Outdoor Center in Gatlinburg, which borders the National Park. It’s the place for outdoor gear and apparel for hiking, camping and much more. Once you’re in the park, be sure to stop by The Sugarland’s Visitor Center. Any nature loving person could spend weeks in the park and still not breathe in all of its bounty, history, culture and wonder. While on your girl trip, try and stop by the Newfound Gap and then on to Clingman’s Dome which is the highest point in the Smoky Mountains. The short and moderately steep trek is worth the magnificent views from the top.
This is the newest area in Pigeon Forge and a place that will be hard to leave. The Island offers great shopping and great eating. Timberwood Grill and Poyner’s Pommes Frites are two places you should definitely check out for some amazing food. There is also Mellow Mushroom, and Dick’s Last Resort just to name a few. Ole Smoky Moonshine, the first legal moonshine in Tennessee is a fun and tasty stop. International Flair Jewelers, which has Pandora charms, jewelry, boutique style clothing and the floor is a work of art. Be sure to grab some Cinnabon’s and Auntie Ann pretzels for a late night snack and got in line to ride “The Wheel,” towering 200 feet-tall and provides an incredible view of The Island and a lot of Pigeon Forge.
While riding The Wheel, you’ll realize there is so much more to discover than one weekend would allow. The Titanic Museum, WonderWorks, horseback riding at Five Oaks and Walden’s Creek, whitewater rafting, Bush’s Bean Visitor Center, Climb Works canopy ziplining, and Xtreme Racing Center, are only a sampling of the attractions to experience.
Places to Stay
Pigeon Forge offers so many different places to stay. Whether you’re looking for a cabin or hotel, there is something for everyone and every budget. If you’re looking for relaxing accommodations, check out RiverStone Resort and Spa or the Margaritaville Hotel at The Island. Both locations offer luxury accommodations, including on-site spas and breath-taking views. You can spend an entire day in the spa for some relaxation and pampering. The Spa at RiverStone and St. Somewhere Spa at Margaritaville Hotel, is a must on a girlfriend getaway.
A weekend may not be enough to enjoy everything that Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains have to offer. When planning your weekend girls trip, it might be a good idea to go ahead and plan your 2nd and 3rd girls trip to the area at the same time.
