Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weather like in the Greater Pigeon Forge area?

The weather in East Tennessee is unique. We have mild winters and summers. During the summer, be on the lookout for the afternoon thunderstorms. Summers are warm and reach 90° F or higher. The summer temperatures will stay with us until September when fall begins. Once the cooler weather comes to the area, the leaves will begin to change to their beautiful colors. The timeframe for this change depends on rainfall and temperatures throughout the year. The amount of rain received will increase in the fall, as well as the number of cool nights. The winter season can begin in November with some snow fall possible. Snow is possible from November to March, but accumulations are not always possible. As of March, spring will begin and we will see beautiful colors of green coming back to the mountains, as well as gorgeous wildflowers and other flora and fauna. Spring showers are likely.

When do the leaves change colors?

Each year, the Smoky Mountains transform into a gorgous display of fall foliage. This event occurs in early to mid-October. As for the exact dates of peak season, it depends on Mother Nature. Weather patterns from the year and elevation can determine when the leaves change.
